In the future, a BioBANG technology will support the substrate digestion of the Blum biogas plant in the Vulkaneifel

New installation of BioBANG in Renè Blum’s biogas plant in the Vulkaneifel district of the Rhineland.

BioBANG, installed in recirculation on the main digester, ensures greater digestion of the most difficult substrates. This not only increases the biogas production, but also improves the overall ecological balance of the plant, which increases the energetic efficiency and enviromental sustainability of the full plant production chain.

“René Blum has taken another important step to increase the efficiency of his biogas plant. After establishing new biogas cultures such as the mixed silphie and modern weed mix is ​​now followed by an innovative digestion technology from Italy, a cavitation system with the beautiful name, BioBANG.

Cavitation describes a physical phenomenon of the formation, growth and decay of gas bubbles. In the case of the hydrodynamic cavitation used here, this is brought about by pressure differences which result from an acceleration of the substrate in the cavitator. When the gas bubbles break down, pressures of 100 to 5,000 atm and temperatures of 500 to 15,000 K result. As a result, the biomass is further broken down and the surface of the biogas substrate is increased. Microorganisms in the biogas plant can generate more and faster biogas from the same amount of substrate due to the much higher attack surface. In addition, the lignocellulose is broken down, which is particularly the case with biomass that has not yet been usable, e.g. landscape conservation and nature conservation will open up new options for the biogas plant.

As a result, the future viability of the Blum biogas plant is ensured by installing this innovative digestion system. Because the improvement of the ecological balance of the entire plant simultaneously increases climate efficiency and sustainability in the entire value chain. After connecting the system, the practical data is collected and all experiences are also passed on to the colleagues. René Blum shows once again that economically and ecologically thought together can also contribute to climate protection at the same time.”

The MUNTER projects and the LIFE-IP project ZENAPA support René Blum in the further development of his biogas plant and the use of alternative biogas substrates.
